Mais uma destilaria que foi fechada em 1983 e desmantelada nos anos 90 sendo hoje, fornecedora de um dos single malt de maior procura mundial.

Mais uma vez, a Revista Fortune, classificou qualquer uma das "annual releases" da Port Ellen, como um dos cinco melhores whisky para investimento.

A destilaria Port Ellen, fundada em 1825, situada na região Escocesa de Islay, é hoje propriedade da Diageo.

Desde 2001 que é lançada uma OB- Official bottling- deste single malt cuja procura excede completamente qualquer intento de "deitar as mãos" a uma destas raridades.

Este Port Ellen 7th Release, destilado em 1979, amadurecido em cascos de carvalho americano durante 28 anos, foi engarrafado em 2007, com 53,8%, e limitado a 5.274 garrafas.

Notas Oficiais de Prova da Destilaria

Appearance: Amber with a glint of green. Good beading.

Nose: Well structured and utterly pleasing. Starts quite restrained. Extra Virgin olive oil. Varnished wood in a warm sun. Sweetness; honey and barley sugar, dessert wine, apple tart. Behind this, sushi, sashimi and growing, scented smoke. Water brings fragrant maritime notes and coal smoke peatiness, settling to fondant sweets dusted with fine coal powder and fading back into the drawer that once held them.

Body: Smooth. Medium.

Palate: Rich interplay of sweetness, salt and delicate smoky notes. Much bigger and sweeter than the nose suggests – in the mouth the flavours roll along, teasing you with layers of oily sweetness and peat oil. Sweet and silky, then coal-smoke and increasing saltiness. Tapenade, laced with heather honey. Water brings up the oily softness then buttery and salty notes emerge, with a light sweetness and a trace of liquorice.

Finish: Medium length, suddenly drying, plenty of straightforward Port Ellen character. Peaty rather than smoky. With water, there’s an attractive lingering note of coal smoke.
